Signs of a Spiritual Disorder

  • Are you withering away spiritually?
  • Are you losing your appetite for God and slowly making your own plate of unhealthy decisions?
  • Have you separated yourself from your relationship with Him?
  • What’s your attitude like? Frail? Small fuse or short-tempered?
  • Are you depriving yourself from His word?
  • Do you secretly binge and get a taste of Him once or twice a week and then spew out the total opposite of who He is?
  • Have you replaced Him with something else?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, you’re beginning to starve yourself and becoming malnourished. There’s no need for me to list examples. You already know what they are.You have fallen into what I call, a spiritual disorder. Much like an eating disorder, you’re starving yourself from God’s daily nutrients. There are changes you need to make to your spiritual diet. He should be included in your daily regimen – not every other day, but everyday. Start with just 5 minutes to talk to Him. Tell Him how thankful you are for waking up today.Tell Him what you think about, what your hopes and dreams are. Share your heart’s desires. Tell Him what your needs are and not your wants, but the miracles that need to take place because you can’t make a way. It’s not like he doesn’t know already, but he honors the man who honors Him and seeks Him first!

“Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8

Most importantly, read! Read and meditate on His word! Open up a bible – pray and ask God for wisdom and understanding while reading. He’ll point you in the right direction. You don’t have to read front to back. You can start by topic, specific people, events, or subjects. I highly recommend the NIV Study Bible, Life Application Bible, or a Men or Women’s Devotional Bible. Hey, your life is pretty much on your cell phone – you can download a Bible app on your iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Droid phone. There should be no excuse. Make it a part of your everyday use. The YouVersion Bible App is one of the most popular apps, but I actually use the DailyBible app by JoanSoft. They both can set reminders for you and create daily reading plans!  Whatever you do just make time to read and speak to Him. Your whole appearance will change, your attitude will change, things around you will begin to change and your spirit will be full and fed from the word of God! His word will sustain you…Jesus declared,

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty! John 6:35
