Stand Your Ground – Shoot and Kill!

I saw this posted on Chris Ayers’ blog – a pastor from Charlotte, NC. I love reading his point of views. He’s very thought-provoking and challenges religious views. Some may believe he’s very controversial. Occasionally, he’ll post a Jesus comic that usually has a word bubble saying something far-fetched and very uncharacteristic of what you think Jesus would say. They’re usually the exact worldly views and beliefs that many believe should be accepted, tolerated, and allowed. It makes you ask, WWJD – What Would Jesus Do?

Really – do you truly belief in your heart of hearts that Jesus would tell you to stand your ground and if necessary, shoot and kill??? What if ??? What if Jesus believed that unjust, unlawful, and unwarranted force was OK? What if Jesus believed that it was OK for a citizen (not of law enforcement or uniform) to  buy and bear a gun without a safety – so you’re ready to pull the trigger to aim and kill? What if Jesus believed that it was OK to shoot and kill a kid and not be held accountable for the loss of a life? What if? What if Jesus believed that it was OK to pursue someone who appeared to be “suspicious” after you’ve reported their “suspicious activity”, and not leave the vicinity for your own safety?

In the wake of the Zimmerman verdict, many have rallied, many have protested, many have declared their anger and outrage. I was left with my jaw dropped, angry, baffled, and confused. Clearly, our nation’s laws and policies have to be addressed and amended.

I felt at peace when the Lord woke me out of my sleep a couple of nights ago and asked me these three things: Are you pursuing me? Are you following me? Are you seeking me with your whole heart? I knew the answer and I knew I had nothing to fear or worry about. He then lead me to Psalm 91.

1″Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

7“A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”

10“No harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

11“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
